Thiruvananthapuram: In Kerala, 120 people have been questioned by the police in Thiruvananthapuram and nearby areas for posting allegedly obscene Facebook posts about a woman advocate who spoke in defence of   Congress leader PJ Kurien amid the furore over the  Suryanelli rape case.

In 1996, a school girl was abducted and raped by 42 men over 40 days. She says Mr Kurien was among them. He was exonerated by the Supreme Court in 2007, but the rape survivor has filed a police complaint against him last week asking for him to be re-investigated.

Mr Kurien, 72, is the Deputy Vice Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

The complaint about the  Facebook posts was filed by Bindu Krishna, an advocate and a local Congress leader,  who says she’s being attacked online for having defended Mr Kurien. “Some people attacked my privacy by posting this comment…it was a  Highly defamatory comment so I filed a complaint with the  Kerala chief minister,” she told NDTV.

In 2005, the Kerala High Court tried 35 men for the rape case, and acquitted 34. This month, the Supreme Court set aside that verdict and ordered a retrial to be completed in Kerala within six months.
